Tattershall Castle
Victoria Embankment, Whitehall, London SW1A 2HR, UK
Tattershall Castle being neither in Tattershall nor a Castle is possibly the most misleading name ever. It is, however, a boat that served as a passenger ferry across the Humber estuary from 1934 to 1973, before being towed to its current location in London in 1976. The boat has amazing views of the London Eye and Big Ben (which is unfortunately under maintenance) and is within walking distance of the Buckingham Palace, the Houses of Parliament, Chinatown and Leicester Square. In light of the recent heatwave, you will be pleased to hear that all indoor areas of the venue are air conditioned!
On the weekend of 28-29 July, it will be the Prudential Ride in London. You are strongly advised to use public transport and/or walk to the venue as there will be road closures around the venue.
Public Transport links
There are 4 Tube stations within easy walking distance. Tube transport is recommended as they will remain available through the weekend, unlike buses which may be affected by road closure and traffic.
- Embankment: 0.2 Miles, 5 Min walk. Escalator access on Northern Line only, no escalator access on Bakerloo line. Note: Charing Cross station is only 300 steps away from Embankment, is served by fewer Tube lines but has mainline rail links to Kent.
- Westminster: 0.4 Miles, 8 Min walk. Lift access between street and platform (all lines).
- Waterloo: 0.6 Miles, 13 Min walk. Lift access between street and platform Northern line, escalator access for Bakerloo line. Though if you made it to Waterloo, it is probably worth getting the Tube to Embankment to reduce the walking time.
For using public transport in London, if you have a UK bank account, you can use contactless payment. This is the easiest and most economical method.
For those who do not have a contactless card and/or a UK bank account, you can purchase an Oyster card at almost all Tube stations. This is a contactless pre-paid card. You have to touch in and touch out for the correct fare to be deducted. At most Tube stations barriers are available to make sure you do this.
Not all Tube stations have step-free access. For those who prefer/require step-free access, please refer to this step-free Tube Map and the TFL step-free journey guide.
Driving and Taxis
Due to the Prudential Ride London on that weekend, we anticipate extensive road closures around the venue. You are strongly advised to take public transport and/or walk to the venue. It is very likely that a taxi will not be able to take you to the venue on the day.
The venue is located on Victoria Embankment, which is closed from 4 am to 11:30 am on the day of the wedding. While this means that it may be possible to access the venue by car or taxi at noon, please note that there is a chance that the road will be closed longer than expected.
The road closures around Prudential Ride London can be viewed at https://roadclosures.prudentialridelondon.co.uk/
